La democrazia americana è sotto attacco. Un assalto senza precedenti. Alcune centinaia di supporter di Donald Trump hanno preso d'assalto il Campidoglio di Washington mentre era in corso la seduta in cui il Congresso avrebbe dovuto ratificare la vittoria alle elezioni del presidente Joe Biden. Nell'aula hanno fatto irruzione le forze speciali e gli agenti dell'Fbi per proteggere i parlamentari: nei corridoi e nelle poltrone si sono viste persone in tenuta paramilitare, centinaia di sostenitori di Trump, che il presidente aveva prima incoraggiato e poi ha tentato invano di fermare. Una donna è morta dopo essere stata colpita al petto da un colpo d'arma da fuoco. All'interno del Campidoglio era stata rianimata e perdeva molto sangue. È stata velocemente portata in ospedale, ma la situazione era già troppo grave. Feriti diversi agenti. E’ scattato il coprifuoco a Washington Dc che resterà in vigore fino alle 6. Lo ha deciso il sindaco Muriel Bowser. Le schede del collegio elettorale sono state messe al sicuro prima che i manifestanti facessero irruzione al Congresso per contestare la certificazione della vittoria di Joe Biden.
