Italy Premier Monti reiterates he'll step down in 2013

(ANSA) - Rome, July 23 - The head of Italy's emergency
technocrat government, Premier Mario Monti, reiterated Monday
his intention to step down when his term expires next year.
Some experts have said uncertainty about what Italy's the
political situation will be after elections next year has
contributed to investors having shaky confidence in the country
and led to soaring borrowing costs.
There have been suggestions from some quarters that Monti
should stay on to stop this.
"I was asked to ensure the management of the country until
the spring of 2013. My colleagues and I are trying with all our
might to do so in the best possible way," Monti said in an
interview published Monday by Russia's Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"At the end of my mandate as premier, I will remain, as I
am now, a Life Senator," Monti added.
