Italian president's legal advisor dies of heart attack

(ANSA) - Rome, July 26 - Loris D'Ambrosio, a legal advisor
to the Italian president at the center of a spat, died Thursday
of a heart attack.
"It shakes my soul to announce with profound pain the
sudden loss of Loris D'Ambrosio, a precious advisor," said
President Giorgio Napolitano. "He was an extremely loyal and
indefatigable servant of the State".
D'Ambrosio, 65, had been at the center of an ongoing row
surrounding an investigation into alleged negotiations between
the Italian State and the mafia in a bid to stop a series of
bomb attacks that claimed the lives of anti-mafia judges
Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992.
Prosecutors investigating the case tapped conversations
between D'Ambrosio and former Senate speaker Nicola Mancino.
Napolitano has accused the prosecutors of overstepping
their authority and failing to comply with their legal
obligation to immediately destroy the recordings.
