First Green Hill beagle finds home amidst applause and tears


(ANSA) - Milan, July 27 - The first beagle rescued from the
controversial Green Hill breeding facilities in northern Italy
was adopted as an emotional crowd of supporters applauded,
announced Italy's State Forest Police on Friday.
The pregnant adult female was adopted by Giuliano Floris,
one of the organizers of the long-running protests leading up to
the closure of the center breeding dogs for scientific
More than 2,500 dogs were seized during inspections last
week by Italian police that have led to three company managers
being put under investigation for animal cruelty.
Fifty percent of the confiscated beagles are 3-8 months old
and many are pregnant adult females who were used specifically
for breeding purposes.
The adopted beagle has been named Vegan by her new owner.
