More young Italians combining vacation with language study


(ANSA) - Rome, July 30 - Young Italians are combining
business with pleasure, taking summer vacations in foreign lands
in order to learn a new language, a study said Monday.
Interest in study holidays is up 35% this year compared
with last year, according to CTS, a student and youth tourism
More than half of those vacationers are choosing London,
combining English-language studies with a visit to the host
country of the 2012 summer Olympics.
In fact, English remains the language most studied by
Italian youth, and in general, a two-week course costs an
average of about 750 euros.
French and Spanish are also popular, and CTS says it is
getting several requests for Arabic and Russian study.
Also popular are work-and-travel programs that involve
short-term work opportunities in such countries as Australia,
Canada and Great Britain.
Interest in these programs has jumped by 50% compared with
