National pollution level up in 2011, says statistics agency

(ANSA) - Rome, July 30 - Air quality in Italian cities got
a rough rating by the national statistics institute Istat in a
report released Monday.
The annual survey showed that in 2011 the national average
for days exceeding acceptable-air-pollution (PM10) levels was
54.4, up from 44.6 in 2010.
The report said that figures for northern cities, which
rose from 55.8 to 75.2 days, partly depended on weather and
climate factors, particularly in the Po Valley.
Pollution values in the country's capital city of Rome
remained stable with approximately 43 days exceeding PM10 limits
and the southern hubs estimating 35 days over acceptable levels.
