Swimming: Pellegrini says she will take sabbatical

(ANSA) - London, July 30 - Federica Pellegrini has said she
will take a year off from swimming after coming only fifth in
the 400 metres freestyle at the London Olympics.
The 23-year-old still has a chance of claiming glory in
London as she will start the defence of her 200, freestyle
Olympic title in the qualifiers on Monday, although her morale
was dented by Sunday's failure.
"I gave my all. I'm disappointed because it was possible to
win with a time of four minutes, one second (as France's Camille
Muffat did)," said Pellegrini, who is the world record holder in
the 400m with a time of 3:59.15.
"Physically, I'm fine. I'm not looking for excuses and I
don't want to blame anyone. I categorically exclude there being
a mental issue. I went out to attack, but I didn't have any more
to give".
Pellegrini confirmed that she plans to take a sabbatical,
adding, ominously for her fans, that "naturally, who knows what
will happen if I like the rest".
