Lazio devastated by 20 fires Friday


(ANSA) - Rome, August 17 - Italy's central region of Lazio,
where the capital city Rome is located, suffered 20 separate
forest and brush fires on Friday, according to data released by
the nation's civil protection forces.
Of these, eleven are still raging.
Most of the blazes broke out in the morning in the province
of Rieti, in Montegrottone and in Fara Sabina.
The fire-fighting authorities sent Canadair aircraft to
combat the flames there.
Three separate incidents took place in the province of
Frosinone, including one in Esperia, where two civil protection
helicopters are currently at work, as well as two Canadair
