(ANSA) - Rome, August 20 - Non-violent crimes are on the
rise in Italy, up 5.4% since 2010 after a three-year decline in
offenses, said a report by the interior ministry on Monday.
In 2011, 2.76 million criminal acts were registered
compared to 2.62 million in 2010.
The report says that the country's economic crisis could be
fueling offenses such as home burglaries that increased by 21%,
reaching 205,000.
Pickpocketing was also up with 134,000 incidents reported
nationwide.
