(ANSA) - Rome, August 27 - Thirty miners for Carbosulcis
coal company on the Italian island of Sardinia barricaded
themselves 375 meters underground asking the government to go
ahead with plans to relaunch production.
The miners began their strike Sunday evening and are held
up in the Nuraxi Figus and Gonnesa mines located in the Sulcis
coal basin in the southwestern area of the island.
Union spokesman Stefano Meletti said on Monday that
workers are asking for "political answers" to create employment
security.
