European unionists protest in front of Fiat's Turin HQ

(ANSA) - Turin, September 7 - A group of trade unionists
from all over Europe gathered in front of the Turin headquarters
of auto giant Fiat in the northern Italian city on Friday
morning to protest planned restructuring of Fiat's bus and truck
maker Iveco.
The possible closure of five sites could result in the
reduction of at least 1,100 jobs in Fiat-owned plants around
Europe, say union representatives.
Approximately 400 workers belonging to IndustriAll
European Trade Union from Poland, Germany, Spain, Czech
Republic, Austria and Italy blocked access to the headquarter's
entrance for several hours and set fire to a mock coffin.
"This is the first protest of many to come aimed at Fiat
offices in Europe," said union spokesman Luc Triangle.
