Bologna represents Italy in global top 200 universities

(ANSA) - Rome, September 11 - Bologna is the only Italian
university to make the top 200 universities in a global ranking
by Quacquarelli Symonds for 2012-2013.
Top place went to the respected Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) while the University of Bologna slipped 11
positions from the previous year's rankings, to 194th spot from
183rd position.
As far as other Italian institutions, Milan's Politecnico
rose to 244th spot from 277 in previous rankings.
Rome's Sapienza University slipped to 216th place from 210.
The QS World University Rankings 2012-2013 also shows some
worsening among Italian universities, as Florence and Pavia fell
below the 400th-place threshold.
The survey also found that despite the continuing financial
pressures, Italian institutions continue to do well in research,
with six institutions among the top 200 in the world including
the University of Bari.
Internationally, Britain's Cambridge fell to second place
behind MIT in the QS rankings, while Harvard slipped to third.
