Catholic network Aleteia promotes dialogue online

(ANSA) - Vatican City, September 18 - September 20 will see
the formal launch of Aleteia (, a new Catholic
social network destined for "seekers of the truth".
Over 1,000 media outlets, institutions and other
organisations have reportedly already signed up to take part in
the project whose name derives from the ancient Greek Aletheia,
meaning 'truth'.
"It is a great opportunity for the Church to expand
dialogue with Catholics, Christians, followers of other
religions and also non-believers, because (it) offers resources
for all 'seekers of the truth'," said Aleteia president and
former director of the Catholic Zenit news agency, Spanish
journalist Jesus Colina.
"For this reason it has the support and backing of the
pontifical councils for Social Communications and Promoting the
New Evangelization," he added.
The network will function in six languages: Italian,
Arabic, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
It is the first initiative of the Foundation for the
Evangelization through the Media (FEM) and comes ahead of the
opening of the Catholic Year of Faith in October.
