(ANSA) - Rome, September 24 - Cagliari said it did not
consider itself responsible for the scrapping of Sunday's Serie
A match against AS Roma after the Sardinian club's chairman
defied the authorities.
Cagliari's prefect ordered the game be postponed after
Chairman Massimo Cellino told home fans to turn up even though
the local authorities had said it had to be played behind closed
doors because the stadium is unfit for use by the public.
The game may not be disputed at all if the soccer League
decides Calgiari were to blame for the match not taking place,
which would mean Roma would be awarded a 3-0 win.
Cellino has been in a long dispute with the local
authorities over his team's home ground.
Cagliari played a number of games in Trieste at the end of
last season because of problems with its long-standing home, the
Stadio Sant'Elia.
The team moved to the Is Arenas Stadium in the outskirts of
the Sardinian city this term but the ground is not ready to host
fans despite recent renovation work.
