Top bishop says individuals, companies must behave better


(ANSA) - Rome, September 24 - Individuals, institutions, and
corporate entities must begin to behave better for the good of
the world, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and
President of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI), said Monday.
"The general good will prevail over any other interest," he
said in his opening address to the Permanent Council of Bishops.
Bagnasco suggested that many people are in serious trouble,
due to the harsh economic times and society's focus on profit.
"Poverty grows and touches everyone," he said.
He called for solidarity in action to deal with economic
and labour market woes, less political corruption, and less
selfishness in the world.
When economic interests and profits prevail over humans,
society will crumble, the CEI chief warned.
The archbishop also singled out civil unions as a serious
risk for society, threatening the sanctity of marriage and the
