(ANSA) - Milan, September 25 - AC Milan assistant coach
Mauro Tassotti said Tuesday that the Serie A giants are enduring
their worst start to the season he can remember.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri is under huge pressure as the
seven-time European champions have just three points from their
first four Serie A games.
They will be seeking their first home win of the campaign
against Cagliari on Wednesday but Allegri has been banned for
abusing the referee after Milan's 2-1 defeat to Udinese on
Sunday and he will not be on the touchline unless an appeal is
successful.
"It's difficult to make comparisons with other periods, but
I can't remember such a difficult start," said former Italy
defender Tassotti, who played for Milan from 1980 to 1997 and
then joined the club's coaching staff.
"You can get out of this situation by staying calm. At the
moment it's easier to play away than at home because it's
different being booed by your own fans," added the 52-year-old,
who is set to stand in for Allegri on the bench against
Cagliari.
"I'm sorry our coach's future is in doubt. I'm very close
to Max and I consider him one of the best coaches Milan have
had, one of the three or four best I have worked with".
Tassotti is remembered by many soccer fans for breaking
Spaniard Luis Enrique's nose by elbowing him in the face in
Italy's 2-1 quarterfinal win over Spain at the 1994 World Cup.
The referee did not see the incident but he was
subsequently given an eight-match international ban and did not
play for the Azzurri again.
