Monti would serve again 'in special circumstances'

(ANSA) - New York, September 27 - Italian Premier Mario
Monti said Thursday he would consider a second term as premier
"in special circumstances".
Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York,
the premier said he would "consider the proposal" if there were
special circumstances, "which I hope there are not".
Monti, who has repeatedly insisted he will not run in
elections next year, said he would continue to serve his country
as a Life Senator, a title he assumed shortly before taking the
helm of a technocratic government in November.
At the time, mounting pressure from the euro crisis forced
then premier Silvio Berlusconi to step down, and President
Giorgio Napolitano nominated Monti, an economist and former
European Commissioner, to replace him.
