Fiorito shredded evidence before arrest, judge says

(ANSA) - Rome, October 2 - A judge on Tuesday said there was
proof that Franco Fiorito, the former caucus leader of Silvio
Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party in Lazio, destroyed
evidence before his arrest.
"Fragments of invoices addressed to the PdL caucus were
found inside a paper shredder and a waste bin at his home," said
the judge's statement.
Fiorito was arrested and taken to jail earlier Tuesday
after a judge agreed with prosecutors that there was a risk he
could reoffend or tamper with evidence.
The case, which exploded when Fiorito was put under
investigation earlier this month, caused the PdL's Renata
Polverini to step down as governor of Lazio last week.
Investigators are looking at around six million euros of
financial transactions carried out by Fiorito over the last two
They said 1.38 million euros of this money went into bank
accounts in Fiorito's name via 193 fund transfers.
