Tax evasion thriving in Italy, says study

(ANSA) - Rome, October 3 - Almost two-thirds of work done in
Italian homes is paid for under the table to avoid taxes,
according to a report released Wednesday.
The rate jumps up to 89% for teachers offering private
lessons, said the report on tax evasion by the Eures institute.
It concluded that little has changed over the past eight
years since it published its first report on the issue.
Domestic workers and repair staff are paid in cash-in-hand
60% of the time, the report found.
Professionals are paid about 40% of their earnings off the
books, it said.
The report analyzed 52 categories of workers.
