Italian appeals court acquits ex-mayor who accepted computer

(ANSA) - Rome, October 4 - The former mayor of the city of
Pescara did not commit a crime when he accepted a computer as a
gift, Italy's top appeals court ruled Thursday.
Receiving a gift does not necessarily constitute
corruption, the Cassation Court said in acquitting the former
mayor of Pescara, Luciano D'Alfonso.
The public prosecutor of the city had urged that D'Alfonso
be convicted for corruption for accepting the laptop from a
doctor whose transfer the mayor had recommended.
The computer had been explained as a combination birthday
and Christmas gift.
