Foreigners spending more in Italy than Italians abroad


(ANSA) - Rome, October 10 - More tourists spent money in
Italy in the first seven months of this year than Italians spent
on vacation outside the country, the Bank of Italy said
In a monthly report on the balance of payments in
international tourism, the central bank said the balance was
positive for Italy in July, with 1,997 million euros spent in
the country by visitors.
From January to July, foreign visitors in Italy spent
18,259 million euros - an increase of 1.1% compared with the
same period last year.
This was also positive when compared with the spending of
11,223 million euros by Italians travelling outside the country,
which marked a 1.8% decrease over the same period in 2011.
