(ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, October 11 - Italian police on
Wednesday night caught the leading fugitive member of the
Calabrian-based 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate on the outskirts of
Calabria's biggest city, Reggio Calabria.
Domenico Condello, nicknamed 'Micu 'u pazzù' (Crazy Micu)
had been on the run for 20 years, since 1992.
He was on the list of Italy's 30 most-wanted men.

mafia crimes.

the European cocaine trade, has spread from its Calabrian base
to northern Italy.

allegedly buying votes from one of the many 'Ndrangheta clans
who have expanded their activity in and around Italy's business
But 'Ndrangheta, whose name comes from an ancient Greek
word for "virtue", has also strengthened its base on its home
On Tuesday Reggio Calabria's city council was dissolved for
ties to 'Ndrangheta.
