Prodi lauds nobel peace prize to EU


(ANSA) - Rome, October 12 - Former Italian premier and
European Commission president Romano Prodi on Friday hailed the
decision to award the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize to the European
Prodi told ANSA that the honour shows that ''the EU doesn't
belong to bankers or to the financial sector, its main
objectives is that of peace''.
Prodi, who was instrumental in making it possible for Italy
to adopt the euro thanks to measures passed by his 1996-98
government, added that the eurozone's third-largest economy, was
''back in play'' thanks to Premier Mario Monti.
Monti took over the helm of government after Silvio
Berlusconi resigned as premier last November because of the debt
