Prosecutor appeals acquittal of Berlusconi, other defendants

(ANSA) - Milan, October 15 - Rome prosecutors are appealing
the acquittal last summer of former premier Silvio Berlusconi,
his son Pier Silvio Berlusconi and other defendants in a case of
alleged fraud at a subsidiary of his Mediaset broadcasting
The appeal, to Italy's Supreme Court, was filed Monday by
prosecutor Fabio De Pasquale in Milan.
It comes after a preliminary-hearings judge in Rome in June
declared that the case against Berlusconi and 10 others had been
timed out under the statute of limitations.
Berlusconi has already been acquitted of a similar case in
Milan, also concerning alleged wrongdoing in the trading of film
rights by the Mediatrade subsidiary.
The other defendants in this case include Egyptian-born
director and producer Frank Agrama.
In this and several other previous trials, Berlusconi has
always denied wrongdoing, claiming he is the victim of a
minority group of allegedly left-wing prosecutors and judges who
he says are persecuting him for political reasons.
In more than a dozen cases, the ex-premier has never
received a definitive conviction, sometimes because of law
changes passed by his governments, while some other charges were
timed out.
