'Bridge by Leonardo da Vinci to span Golden Horn'

Ankara, October 23 - A bridge designed in 1502 by
Leonardo da Vinci will be built over the Golden Horn, the famous
historical inlet separating Istanbul's Oriental quarter from its
Western one, Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday.
The project will be financed entirely by private Turkish
sponsors without dipping into state coffers, Erdogan noted.
The new bridge will be a 220-metre-long pedestrian one, 10
metres wide and 25 metres above the surface of the water at its
highest point. The work designed by Leonardo da Vinci will be
built with the integration of more modern building technologies.
The project, which Turkish daily Hurriyet reports Istanbul's
metropolitan administration has already approved, will be
carried out under the direction of a group of international
figures who have been working on it for three years.
There was no mention of when the works would start.
