Foreigners living in Italy surpass 5 million mark


Rome, October 30 - Social justice organization
Caritas said in a report released on Tuesday that the number of
immigrants living in Italy has surpassed the five million mark.
Over the last year, foreigners living in the country rose
by 43,000.
Approximately 1.3 million are from European countries.
The report, published by Caritas together with the
Migrantes foundation, said that immigrants living in the country
are predominantly Orthodox Christian.
The majority (63.4%) reside in the north (23.5% in Lombardy
specifically), 23.8% in central regions and only 12.8% in the
Romanians make up the biggest group, followed by Moroccans,
Albanians and Ukrainians.
