Lazio governor says regional elections by January

Rome, October 30 - Lazio's outgoing governor Renata
Polverini said on Tuesday that the region would hold early
elections by January.
"(It will) go to a vote by January. And in any case, at
this point, I believe it necessary to do it together with
Lombardy on a single day," declared Polverini.
Polverini, who belongs to ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's
People of Freedom (PdL) party, announced she was stepping down
last month after Franco Fiorito, the PdL's disgraced former
caucus chief for the Lazio region, was accused of embezzling
public money.
Lombardy governor Roberto Formigoni, also of the PDL,
dissolved his executive council this month after it was hit by a
string of corruption probes, including one in which a councillor
was arrested for buying votes from the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta
mafia in the last election.
Corruption scandals have discredited centre-right political
leaders in Lazio, Lombardy and Sicily, pummeling support in
Italy for the PdL and disaffecting voters.
