Ninety people probed in Lampedusa building-permits enquiry


(ANSA) – Lampedusa (Agrigento), October 31 – Ninety people
were placed under investigation on Wednesday for possible
illegal building activities on the southern Italian island of
Lampedusa, as police seized a number of buildings and villas in
the area as part of the probe.
Amongst the buildings that have been confiscated by Italian
tax police on warrants from local magistrates is a villa owned
by Italian singer Claudio Baglioni.
Baglioni is not amongst those being probed, according to
the sources.
The confiscation requests were issued by preliminary
investigations magistrate Albero Davico at the request of
prosecutors Ignazio Fonzo and Luca Sciarretta.
The investigation headed by Agrigento chief prosecutor
Renato Di Natale is focusing on possibile building violations
carried out on the island over the past 40 years in relation to
new constructions.
