Computer expert faces trial in Vatileaks scandal

Vatican City, November 5 - A new trial in the
so-called Vatileaks scandal, which saw the pope's ex-butler
convicted of stealing and leaking confidential Vatican papers,
opened on Monday in the Vatican court.
Vatican computer expert Claudio Sciarpelletti, 48, is
accused of facilitating the documents' removal and circulation.
The same judges who sentenced ex-butler Paolo Gabriele to
one-and-a-half years in prison on October 6 for "aggravated
theft" are presiding over Sciarpelletti's trial. The three-judge
panel is led by Giuseppe Dalla Torre, flanked by Paolo
Papanti-Pelletier and Venerando Marano.
Claudio Sciarpelletti and his defense lawyer Gianluca
Benedetti were present in the courtroom on Monday.
