Italy pulls ban on Novartis vaccines

Rome, November 9 - Italy's national pharmaceutical
oversight body AIFA removed a precautionary ban on the Novartis
V&D flu vaccines following an analysis of the shots.
The health ministry and AIFA had blocked 500,000 vials of
injectable vaccines from the US-based pharmaceuticals company as
a precautionary measure pending the outcome of investigations
into possible unwanted side-effects.
"The tests showed no traces of quality defects," said an
AIFA statement.
The block came after Dutch pharmaceuticals company
Crucell halted delivery of 2.3 million doses of its flu vaccine
in Italy over unexpected test results.
The health ministry has assured consumers there will be no
shortages of vaccine as the flu season approaches.
