EU cuts to agriculture 'not acceptable,' says Coldiretti

Rome, November 15 - Cuts proposed by EU Council
President Herman Van Rompuy to agriculture could affect one of
the "few sectors able to revive the Italian and European
economies" and are "unacceptable", farmers' association
Coldiretti President Sergio Marini said on Thursday.
Budget cuts presented to the 27 member states for 2014-2020
would result in approximately 25.5 billion less for common
agricultural policy, resulting in a "significant reduction in
the resources available for the country," Marini said.
Spending cuts of more than 80 billion euros are included in
the latest draft of the EU's seven-year budget plan.
Those spending cuts, contained in a proposal from Van
Rompuy and released Wednesday, do not go deep enough for some
member countries including Germany and Britain.
