Italians less satisfied with living conditions due to crisis

Rome, November 15 - Italians are finding less
satisfaction with their lives and living conditions as a result
of the economic crisis and dented spending power, the national
statistics agency Istat said on Thursday.
In a survey of 19,000 families asking "how satisfied are
you with your life overall", the agency found that the one-to-10
rating (10 being the highest) had dropped in 2012 to 6.8 in
respect to 7.1 in 2011.
Those polled believe that regional disparities and social
divisions have also increased, according to the survey.
In 2011 families who claim they can not afford unexpected
expenses of 800 euros or more increased from 33.3% to 38.4%, the
study said.
Those who cannot afford a yearly week's holiday rose from
39.8% in 2011 to 46.5% in 2012.
Eating habits have also changed. The number of families
who say they cannot afford a meat or fish dish more than every
two days rose from 6.7% to 12.3%, and those who cannot afford to
adequately heat the house increased from 11.2% to 17.9%.
On the other hand, Italians are taking refuge and enjoying
more quality time with families and friends as a result of their
lack of disposable income to spend on entertainment, Istat said.
Of those surveyed, 91% said they were satisfied with their
family relationships and 84% with their friendships.
