Italy gets balance-of-trade boost

Rome, November 22 - There was some much-needed good
news for the recession-hit Italian economy on Thursday, when
Istat said the country's balance of trade with respect to
non-European Union countries registered a 1.5-billion-euro
surplus in October.
The statistics agency said this was a huge improvement on
the same month in 2011, when there was a 657-million-euro
balance-of-trade deficit with non-EU countries.
Istat said the most dynamic markets for Italian exports in
October were OPEC nations, Japan and ASEAN countries, with
respective increases of 39%, 31% and 30%.
