ILVA to close off non-seized areas affecting 5,000 employees

Taranto, November 26 - ILVA steelworks officials
announced on Monday the "almost immediate" closure of the
plant's area not currently under seizure, affecting more than
5,000 workers in the southern Italian city of Taranto.
Secretary for the FIM CISL labor union Marco Bentivogli
said that union members from Genoa, Novi Ligure, Racconigi,
Marghera and Patrica would be arriving at the embattled plant in
the next days.
The plant has been closed since July following a Taranto
court's order to impound the smelting areas in order to
safeguard people and the environment.
ILVA and the government have been trying to keep the plant
in operation while remediation measures necessary for ILVA to
obtain environmental authorization (AIA) are carried out.
