Artificial brain recognizes and remembers

Rome, November 29 - A group of researchers in
Canada have created an artificial brain able to recognize
numbers, remember lists and write them with a robotic arm.
The model, consisting of just 2.5 million neurons, was
designed to resemble the different regions of the brain,
according to an article in the Italian magazine 'Scienze'.
Researchers at Waterloo University said that despite its
capacity to compute information and perform functions, the model
is still far from being able to reproduce the complexity of the
human brain.
The model performs simple operations that do not require
any apparent effort to a human being, but that express
perception and cognition.
The team said that the artificial model can help
researchers understand the brain's natural functions.
