Chrysler U.S. sales jump 14% in November

Rome, December 3 - US carmaker Chrysler, majority
controlled by Italy's Fiat SpA, on Monday said that its November
sales in the United States increased 14% on the year-earlier
Chrysler, which passed under Fiat's control as part of a
U.S.-government backed bailout program, said in a statement it
sold 122,565 vehicles in the U.S. in November, up from 107,172 a
year ago.
The company's performance was boosted by the Dodge and
Fiat-branded cars, with Dodge sales jumping 32% - its best
November performance in five years.
Fiat's 500 model, the only Fiat-branded model currently
sold in the US, also logged growth, albeit from a fairly modest
starting point.
"Regardless of all the uncertainty deriving from the
imminent fiscal cliff, the Chrysler Group is well positioned to
end the year with strong growth," U.S. sales manager Reid
Bigland said referring to the possible automatic federal
spending cuts and tax increases expected to begin in 2013 unless
President Barack Obama and congress agree on reforms aimed at
curtailing the country's huge deficit.
"Customers are responding positively to our end-year
offers, which makes us confident that we will realize high sales
also in December," Bigland said.
