Police smash Camorra mafia drugs ring


Caserta, December 4 - Police on Tuesday arrested 35
people on suspicion of drug-trafficking activities linked to a
Camorra mafia clan.
Large quantities of drugs and weapons were seized in the
operation and assets including properties, vehicles and bank
accounts were also confiscated.
The syndicate - 'specialised' in trafficking cocaine, crack
and cannabis - is thought to be affiliated with the
Fragnoli-Gagliardi mafia gang based in Mondragone in the
southern Campania region.
However the weapons - a powerful homemade bomb and an Uzi
submachine gun - were found in a car belonging to a supected
affiliate of another Camorra mafia clan, Di Lauro, based in
Naples' Secondigliano neighbourhood.
''The presence of an affiliate of Secondigliano's Di Lauro
clan in Mondragone is further confirmation that Camorra groups
are always looking for new alliances in order to expand their
illicit activities,'' said deputy prosecutor Federico Cafiero de
Raho, coordinator of the anti-mafia directorate in Naples.
Investigators say the drugs were bought in Secondigliano
and sold in Mondragone municipal park, where the traffickers -
including minors - raked in over 7,000 euros a day.
