Monti says it isn't 'useful' to shift blame for spread

Rome, December 6 - Italian Premier Mario Monti
said on Thursday he didn't think it useful to try and attribute
blame for how the spread between Italian and German bonds has
been doing.
The spread between 10-year Italian bonds and the German ones
are a barometer of Italy's borrowing costs in the eurozone
''I do not find it particularly interesting, nor do I find
it useful especially if I do it, that of trying to attribute
merits or responsibility'' in relation to how the spread has
been faring, Monti said.
Monti was speaking at a press conference in Rome following
a cabinet meeting in which he played down speculation about his
possible resignation amid a brewing government crisis.
The spread rose almost 20 points on news that ex-premier
Silvio Berlusconi was set to pull the plug on Monti and stand as
premier again.
