Soccer: Italy boss Prandelli backs Mancini line on Balotelli

Rome, December 17 - Italy coach Cesare Prandelli on
Monday backed Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini's handling of
temperamental Azzurri striker Mario Balotelli.
Mancini has left the 22-year-old out of his squad for
recent games, citing poor form and a bad attitude to training,
and warned him he risks throwing away his immense talent.
"Mancini is totally right, Balotelli must listen to him,"
Prandelli told Rai television. "It all depends on him.
"Coaches can act as an intermediary to stimulate him, but
it has to come from him".
Balotelli has been linked to a move to AC Milan in the
January transfer window amid speculation English champions City
have run out of patience and want to offload him.
But Prandelli said he did not see a move back to an Italian
club as the solution for the former Inter Milan striker.
"The important thing is that the player can play
consistently," he said. "It's not a problem of city or country.
It all depends on him".
Balotelli will appeal at a Premier League tribunal this
week to try to overturn City's decision to fine him two weeks'
wages - £340,000 or about 400,000 euros - for his poor
disciplinary record last season.
The 22-year-old missed 11 games domestically and in Europe
last season because of suspensions.
