Soccer: Sampdoria replace Ferrara with Rossi

Genoa, December 17 - Sampdoria sacked coach Ciro
Ferrara on Monday after a run of poor form and replaced him with
former Fiorentina, Palermo and Lazio boss Delio Rossi.
The Genoa side made a strong start to the season, winning
their first three Serie A games, but they have lost all but
three of their last 12 encounters, including Sunday's 3-1 defeat
at Catania.
They are 14th in Serie A with 17 points from 17 games,
three points above the relegation zone.
Former Napoli, Juventus and Italy defender Ferrara left his
job in charge of Italy's Under-21 side to take over Sampdoria in
the close season.
He had an unsuccessful stint as Juventus boss from 2009 to
Rossi is returning to soccer for the first time since his
controversial short stint at Fiorentina last term.
He managed to guide the Florence side to safety after they
flirted with relegation but tension within the squad got so high
that Rossi attacked Serbian striker Adem Ljajic in one match
for sarcastically clapping after being substituted.
Rossi won the Italian Cup with Lazio in 2009.
Sampdoria announced that Director of Sport Pasquale
Sensibile had quit after Ferrara's dismissal.
Ferrara is the seventh coach to leave a Serie A club so far
this season.
Bottom side Siena appointed former Sampdoria boss Giuseppe
Iachini after sacking Serse Cosmi following Sunday's 4-1
drubbing at Tuscan rivals Fiorentina
Palermo, Chievo Verona, Cagliari, Genoa and Pescara have
also changed coaches.
