Former employee arrested over Brunello winery raid


Siena, December 18 - A former winery employee was
arrested late on Monday for allegedly raiding a winery in
Tuscany's famous Brunello di Montalcino wine-growing area and
vandalising around 600 hectolitres of the precious red.
A.D., 39, is believed to have acted out of revenge after
the owner of the Case Basse estate failed to assign him company
The winery raid dates to the night of December 2, when the
suspect allegedly opened the taps on barrels and barriques
allowing the entire production from 2007 to the present to drain
He now faces charges of sabotage.
Case Basse is a 23-hectare estate of which 6.5 hectares are
devoted to vine cultivation.
ßßßß The winery produces 10,000 bottles of Brunello a year.
