Rome, December 19 - A new online think tank called
l'Italia Viva or Italy Alive (www.litaliaviva.net) driven by
Italians under 40 years old is set to launch on December 21 in
direct stream.
More than 100 participants from around the country and all
walks of life created the initiative to promote "a country that
has not given up, is alive and not ready to surrender to the
decline of our times," says the site's homepage.
Youth unemployment in recession-hit Italy reached a record
high of 36.5% in October, with some 639,000 15-24-year-olds
looking for jobs, Italy's statistics agency Istat said recently.
"We are the generation that has seen all the rules change
on us. We have learned to rely only on ourselves," said the
site.
Among the many entrepreneurs, professionals and managers
promoting the think tank, Italian Olympic fencer Diego
Occhiuzzi has signed on.
Themes that will be covered include how to cut through the
country's stiffling bureaucracy, the green economy, innovation,
governance and funding sources.
"Despite all the difficulties we have forged ahead and
today we want to tell the country not to throw in the towel,"
says the homepage message.
