Rome, December 20 - AC Milan face the daunting task
of taking on Spanish giants Barcelona in the last 16 of the
Champions League, while Juventus will be pitched against Glasgow
Celtic after Thursday's draw in Nyon was kinder to the Turin
team.
Barca, still considered the world's finest side despite
failing to win the domestic title or the Champions League last
season and saying goodbye to coach Pep Guardiola, knocked Milan
out in the quarter-finals of the competition last term.
"We've come up against the best team in the world," said
Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri.
"We'll try to make it through to the next round anyway,
hoping we are luckier than last year".
Serie A champions Juventus have been drawn against arguably
the weakest side to make it to the knockout stage of the
competition.
But coach Antonio Conte is refusing to underrate the
Scottish champions.
"We must consider the Champions League experience as a path
of development, regardless of the opponent," said Conte, whose
side are seven points clear at the top of Serie A.
"Celtic are a good side. They beat Barcelona (in a
group-stage match) and they qualified from a group that also
included good teams like Benfica and Spartak Moscow.
"They have excellent players such as (Greece forward
Georgios) Samaras and (Scottish midfielder Kris) Commons.
"We will approach the tie with great enthusiasm, the
maximum respect for the Scots and the desire to do our best".
In the continent's second club competition, the Europa
League, Inter Milan were drawn against Romania's CFR Cluj.
Lazio will face Germans Borussia Moenchengladbach in the
first knockout round and Napoli will take on Viktoria Plzen of
he Czech Republic.
