Soccer: City boss Mancini to give Balotelli second chance

Rome, December 21 - Manchester City boss Roberto
Mancini said Friday that he is willing to give Mario Balotelli a
"second chance" while stressing that the wayward Italy striker
had to "deserve it".
Balotelli has not been a regular starter for the English
champions this season and Mancini has publicly criticised the
attitude of his compatriot, saying he risks throwing away his
immense talent.
He was left out of City's squad for last weekend's 3-1 win
at Newcastle United.
The 22-year-old's time at City has been dogged by
indiscipline and a series of bizarre off-field antics.
The friction peaked when Balotelli moved to appeal to a
Premier League tribunal to try to overturn a fine of 340,000
pounds, or about 400,000 euros, for his poor disciplinary record
that saw him miss 11 games because of suspensions last season.
But the player made a U-turn after talks on Tuesday and
decided to drop the action and accept the fine.
"I am his manager and, like the other players, if he
deserves another chance I'll give him another chance," Mancini
told a press conference.
"But Mario now needs to deserve it".
