'No proof electronic cigarettes stop addiction'

Rome, December 28 - There is no scientific evidence
that electronic cigarettes help to combat smoking addictions,
says a report for Italy's health minister released Friday.
The National Institute of Health (ISS) says the government
should warn young adults that although the dosage of nicotine is
lower, there are still potential health risks from the popular
electronic smokes.
There must be a "prudent approach" towards a product that
seems inefficient at helping stop smoking while still toxic,
said Roberta Pacifici, director of the cigarette, alcohol, and
drug division of the ISS.
The institute says it's concerned because the electronic
cigarettes have been a popular Christmas gift that could be a
"gateway" drug leading young people to graduate from the gadget
to smoking real cigarettes.
