Soccer: Italian sport chief backs stopping games for racism

Rome, January 9 - Gianni Petrucci, the outgoing
chief of Italian sport's governing body, said Wednesday that he
agreed with stopping matches in which players are subject to
racist abuse.
On Tuesday Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) chief Giancarlo
Abete said official games would be stopped if there were
repetitions of the racist jeering that caused AC Milan to walk
off a friendly against fourth-tier Pro Patria last week.
"I agree with the FIGC," said Petrucci, who is set to step
down as head of the Italian Olympic Committee to take the helm
of the national basketball federation.
"It's right to suspend matches to stop racism".
