More than 4,100 small businesses open under simplified law


Rome, January 15 - More than 4,100 new, young
entrepreneurs have opened small businesses in the four months
since the Italian government simplified laws governing their
operations, a group of notaries said Tuesday.
Fully 4,162 new operations with very low capital have taken
advantage of simplified legal requirements for small start-ups,
according to figures released by the National Council of
Last fall, the government of outgoing premier Mario Monti
introduced a new corporate type reserved for young people under
35 years of age, with a minimum capital of one euro to a maximum
of 10,000 euros as seed money.
Four Italian regions have the greatest number of these
small firms: Lazio, home to capital city Rome, with 631
start-ups; Campania, with 598; Lombardia, with 506; and Sicily,
with 347.
