Milan, January 17 - Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said
Thursday that the carmaker was committed to Italy, the
Turin-based company's largest market.
"We are ready to confirm all of our commitments to Italy,"
said Marchionne at an automotive event sponsored by Italian car
publication Quattroruote.
Fiat, Italy's largest private employer and biggest
industrial company, is trying to restructure its
operations in Italy amid historic drops in sales at home.
It recently announced that 2012 was its worst year for auto
sales in Italy since 1979.
Those numbers have helped spark a period of tumultuous
labour relations amid temporary layoffs at its plants in
recession-plagued Italy.
On Thursday, Marchionne sought to calm fears of any
downsizing.
"In three to four years we will be getting full use of our
employees," he added.
