Rome, February 25 - One of the three members of the
Ukrainian feminist group Femen who targeted ex-premier Silvio
Berlusconi with a bare-chested protest said "we attacked
Berlusconi because he is the most sexist politician there is in
circulation".
Femen leader Inna Shevchenko told the newspaper La
Repubblica on Monday that "Berlusconi buys women as though they
were a commodity".
"And thanks to his media empire he transmits a degrading
female image".
The three protesters posing as AP journalists confronted
Berlusconi as he voted in Italian parliamentary elections on
Sunday.
When Berlusconi entered the atrium of a school serving as a
polling station in Milan, the Femen protesters unbelted their
heavy winter coats to reveal their nude breasts and chanted
"Basta Berlusconi" or "Enough Berlusconi!"
Roughly a year ago, Femen activists staged a similar
protest against Berlusconi's friend, Russian President Vladimir
Putin, at a polling station in Moscow, and this month marked the
pope's resignation striking church bells and chanting "Pope no
more" in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
Shevchenko said the police who stopped them were "brutal,
violent".
"I am seeing a doctor because I have an injury on the
head," she explained.
