European commission has 'full faith in Italy' after election


Brussels, February 27 - European Commission
President Jose' Manuel Barroso on Wednesday "expressed his full
faith in Italy", according to a statement, after elections there
failed to produce a clear majority in parliament.
"As one of the biggest economies in Europe, it will
guarantee the conditions of stable politics in the interests of
both the country and Europe," a European commission statement
Barroso was meeting in Brussels with outgoing Premier Mario
Monti, whose centrist reform ticket produced disappointing
results at elections Sunday and Monday, while the center left
squeaked by with a majority in the House but failed to secure a
majority in the Senate, priming the parliament for gridlock.
The big winners were Silvio Berlusconi's center-right bloc
and Beppe Grillo's Five Star Movement, both of which ran on
anti-austerity platforms to take over 50% of the popular vote.
That has some investors and leaders worried about Italy's
willingness to uphold economic and financial reforms imposed by
